The Effect of Self-Care Program on Quality of Life for Children with Celiac Disease

مقدمه

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that is associated with lifelong sensitivity to gluten, they suffer significant decrement in Quality of life (QOL). This study is designed to see if self-care educations and programs may improve the quality of life for children with celiac disease.

روش کار

This study is a controlled quasi-experimental clinical trial. 40 known celiac cases (8 to 20 years’ age) were enrolled as they were admitted in the research center and were divided into two groups. 4 educational sessions are hold and Data collection is done by the following standard questionnaires: Quality of life questionnaire for children with Celiac disease, Demographic Information questionnaire, need-assessment questionnaire, and a self-care checklist. After holding training classes for the intervention group, self-care checklists were given to the samples and both groups were followed for 3 months. Data were analyzed by SPSS software.

نتایج

The results indicated that there were significant differences between the average scores of QOL for children with celiac disease before and after the intervention in both groups (P<0.05); but the average total score of quality of life in experimental group after intervention was significantly greater in all aspects than control group.

نتیجه‌گیری

Self-care education and holding its’ practical activities can improve the quality of life in Patients with Celiac Disease and increases the patient's adjustment to the disease.
